What is Engineered Wood Flooring ?

Engineer's wood, also known as technical flooring, is a type of wooden floor made from layers of wood joined together, including a surface layer of natural wood with a thickness of 2mm - 5mm, the layer below the surface layer is a core layer of Plywood or horizontal layer of natural wood.

Surface layer

Engineered wood flooring (Engineer plywood)

This is a layer of natural wood with a thickness of 2mm - 5mm, whole bar or UNI or FJL. The surface layer is UV painted or oiled, depending on customer preference. Because it is a natural wood, the Engineer's surface layer retains the inherent characteristics of the wood that forms it, but has the advantage of limiting expansion and warping due to thinner.

The surface layer is usually manufactured from popular and popular natural woods such as Oak,  Lao Teak, Lao Red Wood, Cam Xe, and Walnut.

The surface layer must also be treated to certain standards such as humidity must be less than 14% water, UV paint or oil wipe, limit dead eyes, plaster...

In addition, now there is a new type of product that uses a surface layer of laminate flooring to increase scratch resistance, a variety of colors, wood grain as well as color uniformity, but the price is cheap. .

Bottom layer

Currently, the bottom layer will be made of Plywood or natural wood with bars (also known as 3-layer Engineer wood flooring).

Plywood is the bottom layer made by pressing and gluing 10-15 thin boards from 1mm to 2mm together to form a solid block. Plywood is usually produced from common woods such as Melaleuca Cottonwood, Rubber wood or Oak. Currently, Plywood panels are usually imported from Russia or China.

The natural wood bottom layer has a structure consisting of small and short natural wooden bars connected together into a solid block, usually from 8mm to 10mm thick, made from Melaleuca, Oak, Rubber, etc. Golden Kieu can also be produced from Cam Xe wood, Red Oak wood or Christmas Huong wood.

Engineered wood flooring advantages

- Firstly, the surface is still natural wood. After installation, the wooden floor has the same surface as 100% pure natural wood floor, it is difficult to distinguish. Engineered wood floors still bring the benefits that solid wood floors bring to you.

- Second, high durability. With natural wood floors you can use up to hundreds of years, with engineered wood floors the durability can be up to 20-30 years.

Third, the price is cheap. Compared with solid natural wood flooring, the price of engineered wood flooring is 2/3 of the price and only higher than industrial wood floors from 200,000 to 300,000 VND/m2.

- Fourth, high stability. Unlike industrial and natural wood floors, engineered wood floors have high stability, limit expansion, warping as well as enhance water resistance.

Fifth, the wood floor specifications are diverse. With Engineer you can produce large and special specifications such as faces up to 250 mm wide or up to 2000 mm long.
